Carolina Jazz Ensemble

Creating a digital stage for a luxury jazz experience

The Carolina Jazz Ensemble is a modern jazz collective that creates sophisticated live music experiences for luxury hotels, corporate events, destination weddings, private celebrations, and cultural performances. Their music blends timeless jazz with contemporary soul, funk, and R&B influences to create memorable experiences for every audience.

Working closely with the client, I designed and developed a responsive website featuring elegant visuals, clear content organization, and a streamlined booking experience—creating a strong foundation for the ensemble's continued growth.

A world-class ensemble with no digital presence

The Carolina Jazz Ensemble had previously been represented within the founder's personal artist website, making it difficult to position the ensemble as its own premium brand.

The new website needed to establish a dedicated online presence that clearly communicated the group's professionalism, showcased their performances, and made it easy for potential clients to learn about their services and request booking information.

The experience also needed to support multiple audiences, including luxury hotels, corporate events, destination weddings, private celebrations, educational programs, and international cultural performances.

Design Process

Discovery & Research

Audited competitor sites, mapped audience expectations, and defined the positioning gap between where the ensemble was and where they needed to be digitally.

  • Interviewed the ensemble director to surface goals, tone preferences, and target clientele
  • Audited 8+ competitor jazz and live-music sites across the luxury event market
  • Identified that premium buyers prioritize venue credentials and testimonials over detailed bios
  • Defined two primary user types: wedding planners and corporate event coordinators

Information Architecture

Organized the site to tell the ensemble's story — from who they are and what they offer, to how they perform and where they've appeared — with each section earning the next scroll.
  • Built a sitemap in Figma covering all pages and content hierarchy
  • Structured the homepage as a narrative scroll: Hero → Credentials → Repertoire → Configurations → Story → Proof → CTA
  • Created dedicated pages for media, videos, and gallery so prospective clients could experience the ensemble before making an inquiry
  • Mapped content types to conversion stages: awareness, credibility, desire, action

Wireframing & Prototyping

Lo-fi wireframes in Figma established layout logic and content hierarchy. A mid-fi prototype was reviewed with the client before any visual design began.
  • Created lo-fi wireframes for all page sections in Figma
  • Annotated layout decisions — especially CTA placement and image/text rhythm
  • Built a clickable mid-fi prototype to walk the client through the user journey
  • Iterated on the ensemble configurations section after client feedback on tier naming

Visual design

Inspired by luxury hospitality and editorial design, the visual language emphasizes elegant typography, immersive imagery, and intentional spacing — creating a polished first impression for event planners, venues, and private clients.
  • Drew references from luxury hospitality branding and editorial publications to establish the aesthetic direction
  • Chose a near-black ground with deep charcoal sections to evoke a jazz venue environment
  • Used the ensemble's existing performance photography as the primary design element throughout
  • Selected italic serif headlines for artistic sophistication paired with clean sans-serif body copy

Building a brand presence

The website was designed from the ground up to position the Carolina Jazz Ensemble as a premium entertainment brand. Inspired by luxury hospitality and editorial design, the experience emphasizes elegant typography, immersive imagery, and intentional spacing to create a polished first impression for event planners, venues, and private clients.

Guiding the user journey

Rather than simply presenting information, the site was organized to tell the ensemble's story—from who they are and what they offer to how they perform and where they've appeared. Clear navigation, focused messaging, and strategically placed calls to action help visitors confidently move toward booking an event.

Bringing the Performance Online

Because live music is best experienced visually, the media experience became a central part of the website. Dedicated pages for performances, videos, and photography allow prospective clients to experience the ensemble before making an inquiry, helping build confidence and showcase the atmosphere they create.

Outcome

A dedicated digital home that supports future growth

The final website gives The Carolina Jazz Ensemble a dedicated digital home that reflects the professionalism of the group and supports future growth. It establishes a scalable foundation for Phase 2, which will include a complete brand identity and logo redesign.

"I had been trying to build this website on my own for over a year and kept getting stuck. Once I started working with Andrew, we accomplished more in two weeks than I had managed in an entire year. He genuinely cared — not just checking a project off his list. The final result exceeded my expectations, and I'm proud to share it with the world."
